How to evaluate AI for private credit workflows
Evaluate AI assistance for lending using representative questions, source context, access boundaries, and human review.
Choose a question with a useful operational answer
Start with a task your team repeatedly investigates, such as identifying outstanding documents or understanding what is holding up a draw review. A focused question makes it easier to assess whether the AI response is useful and whether the supporting information is available.
Inspect the information behind the answer
Ask which records and documents contribute to a response and how a reviewer reaches them. Compare the answer with the underlying information. Include a case with an outdated document or incomplete record to understand how the system handles uncertainty and missing context.
Review access and data handling
A helpful answer still needs appropriate boundaries. Review which workspace information can be used, how permissions apply, and the service providers involved. Discuss retention and processing requirements with the vendor. Evaluate the documented approach against your organization’s policies before enabling a broader use case.
Keep decisions with the responsible people
Distinguish summarizing information from approving a draw, making a credit decision, releasing funds, or sharing an investor package. Define the human review step and the evidence the reviewer needs. AI should support the work without making the team’s responsibilities ambiguous.
Test exceptions as well as the happy path
Use representative questions with incomplete packets, conflicting records, and ambiguous wording. Check whether the response helps the person identify the next review step. A polished answer alone does not establish that the answer is accurate or appropriate for the task.
Connect the evaluation to adoption
Agree on who will use the feature, for which tasks, and how they will review results. Capture the questions that worked and the cases requiring more validation. Begin with a defined use case and expand based on what the team learns from real operational review.
